Swedish festival Small Press Expo [spx] presents its eleventh incarnation during April the 23rd through 26th in 2009. As usual we promise to deliver a weekend packed with comics, interesting guests, lectures, film screenings, workshops, parties and the continually amazing fanzine and small press marketplace.
This year we focus on comics and creators who get their inspiration from day-to-day existence, history and autobiography. Among the guests and co-conspirators this year we find Swedish publishers Galago and their stupendous roster of comix creators. They got wide recognition last year for From the Shadow of the Northern Lights, an anthology published in collaboration with the American outfit Top Shelf, whose
publisher Chris Staros and creator Jeffrey Brown we are pleased to have as guests at the festival along with people like Paul Gravett and Peter Stanbury (England), Olivier Deprez (France), Miles O'Shea (Belgium), Alvin Buenaventura (USA) and Mawil (Germany). Another theme inspiring the proceedings is friendship, the focus of the festival’s main exhibition by Andrea Bruno(Italy). We have also invited Swedish creators to share their thoughts on friends and relationships, a prevalent topic in the autobiographical comics that dominate much of the Swedish scene.
